President Donald J. Trump is not apologizing for keeping a nuclear bomb out of the hands of the Iranian regime. Speaking with reporters Wednesday at the White House ballroom construction site, the President was asked about the view that the Iran conflict cost Republicans on Tuesday. He gave a straight answer. Gasoline went up “a little bit short term,” he said. “But at the same time, if I had it to do again, I’d have to do it again. Because long term, it’s the only answer. You can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”

A reporter pressed him: was it worth it? “I do, yeah,” President Trump said. “I mean, well, you have no choice.” He added that he expected oil to go up “a lot more” than it did, and that the pressure on Iran continues. “The Iran thing we had to do, and we continue to do it,” he said. “We have tremendous oil flowing out of the Hormuz right now.” In his view, voters reacted to “the price, not the war, the price.”

The President was also asked about Vice President JD Vance’s long post on X about Tuesday’s results, which pointed to the war and gas prices. President Trump said he knew it was coming and had no problem with it. “I know how he feels about it. I think it was fine. I thought it was good,” he said. “I knew that when I went in. And we stopped them from having a nuclear weapon, and they will never have a nuclear weapon.”

That is what leadership looks like. Presidents before him talked tough on Iran and let the regime race toward the bomb. President Trump acted, knowing it could cost him politically, because the safety of the American people and the world comes before any election. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said it plainly: an Iranian nuclear weapon will never be allowed under this President.

The midterms are over, and the mission is not. With oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz and the pressure campaign on Tehran still on, President Trump made his priority clear Wednesday. Patriots can count on this: as long as he is in the Oval Office, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.
