Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy just drew a bright line under decades of outdated FAA gear. “Floppy disks from the 1980s: OUT. 21st century tech: IN,” Duffy posted Thursday as he unveiled the new Enterprise Information Display System, or E-IDS.

E-IDS is a streamlined way for air traffic controllers to get real-time weather, equipment and traffic information — all in one place, on one smart display. Controllers who have been stuck with analog equipment and systems essentially running on Windows 95 finally get the tools they need to manage America’s airspace.

“We have kick-started a historic overhaul of our air traffic control system,” Duffy said in the video. “All investments that are going to make your system more resilient and safer. We are now modernizing our system and putting that information on one smart computer screen.”

Five sites are already live. More than 400 FAA facilities are scheduled by 2028. That is a national rollout that puts safety first and ends the era of floppy disks and outdated screens that put American travelers at risk.

“Our people deserve the most technologically advanced air traffic control system and that’s what we are going to deliver for the American people,” Duffy said. Under President Trump, safer skies are not a talking point — they are being built, site by site, screen by screen.
