A New York Times reporter tried to get President Trump to hand Iran his war plans on Saturday night. “Do you expect to go back to war against Iran as soon as this week?” the reporter asked during a press gaggle in Florida.

The President was not about to play along. “Why would you ask such a stupid question?” he shot back. “Let’s say I did — would I tell you?” No commander in chief worth the title tells the enemy, or the New York Times, when the next move is coming.

Trump made clear in the same gaggle that America holds every card. “We’ve knocked out their Navy, we’ve knocked out their Air Force, we’ve knocked out their anti-aircraft,” he said, adding that U.S. strikes took out “a lot of their manufacturing” too. “We’ve knocked out their nuclear. We still have to take care of, I would say, one or two sites, but we can do that in ten minutes, so we have that plan.”

That is why, he said, there is no rush at the bargaining table. “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “They want to make a deal; we’ll find out about that.” Asked how talks are going, he said, “They’re going fine, but they’re not very reliable… They make a deal and then they back out.”

Peace through strength is not a slogan for this President. It is a plan, and he is not going to read it out loud to a reporter. Tehran knows exactly who is in charge.
