Democrats woke up Wednesday thinking they had won Washington. President Donald J. Trump had a one-word answer on election night: veto. “It’s been done before, as you know, numerous times,” the President said of divided government. “It’s the power of veto. It’s one of the stronger powers that a President has. And they’ll send over things that are insane, and I’ll veto them.”

The AP projects Democrats will hold majorities in both the House and the Senate when the new Congress is sworn in. The President made clear the America First agenda does not stop at the Capitol. Every bill still has to cross his desk, and nothing “insane” gets signed.

He also predicted how it ends. “After a couple of months of vetoes, they’ll call, and they’ll say, how do we get this stuff done, and we’ll work together,” President Trump said. “You have a lot of friends that are Democrats, believe it or not.”

Those calls have already started. “I’ve already spoken to some of them. I’ve had four calls from meaningful Democrats,” the President said, “two senators and three congressmen, actually. So it’s a total of five, and they have three waiting to call me. They obviously want to talk.”

His team drove the message home. Late on election night, Rapid Response 47 shared the President’s Truth Social post of a red “VETO” hat. Wednesday morning, the White House posted a photo of the President in the Oval Office, stamped “PSA: Trump is still your President,” with the caption “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” In the President’s words: “I have the power of veto, and the power of veto is, you know, it’s impervious.”
