President Trump is confident about Nov. 3 — and he has an answer ready for anyone predicting a stalemate in Washington. Asked on the South Lawn on Friday what happens if the midterms bring gridlock, the President said: “Well, I think the Republicans are going to win.”

“But if there was, as you call it, gridlock, what happens is I veto everything and then the Democrats come and they want to make a deal,” Trump said. “So we’ll work it out.”

The President said history backs him up. “If you look historically, whether you have a situation where that would happen, if it happens, you veto, veto, veto, and then they come and they say, how do we get it done, and you make a deal.”

It is the dealmaker’s playbook: hold the line, use every tool the Constitution gives the President, and let the other side come to the table. The better plan, Trump made clear, is to keep Republicans in charge so the America First agenda keeps moving. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
