President Trump has a clear formula for the midterms: get his voters to the polls. Speaking with reporters on the South Lawn Thursday before heading to Iowa, the President laid out the math.
“When I run, we get almost 50% more voters,” President Trump said. “So if I can get my voters out, we can win.” He noted that a sitting president, Republican or Democrat, typically doesn’t do well at midterms, but added, “I say this, if my people come out even a little bit, we’ll do great.”
“So when I run, 50% more people come out. I guess that’s a compliment,” the President said. “I’d like to see if I could get a lot of them out now. If we do that, we’ll win easily in a landslide.”
The President also called out The New York Times. “Those Times used fake poll numbers against me, and it was just revealed. The polling company just said that the numbers were fake,” he said. To the best of his knowledge, he added, the paper has not apologized.
He is taking the message on the road. “I won Michigan by a lot. It’s a great state,” Trump said. “I think we’re going to do very well in Michigan.” And as for the crowds: “We are getting great crowds. They have a line in Iowa that’s miles long right now, trying to get into the arena.”
