President Trump showed America what his team was up against when it brought the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool back to life. Holding up photos at Monday’s grand opening, the President pointed to the brand-new lawn beside the pool. “This was the grass and it was totally vandalized up here,” he said. “And this was put out on the surface. 8647.”
“You know what that means? That was a Comey phrase. 8647. That means kill 47,” Trump said. “That’s a mob expression that Comey, I guess, was the first one that I heard put it out. So, not nice.” Then he said it plainly: “Comey was a dirty cop.”
The vandals used acid. “It was done with acid and it was put out over the lawn,” the President said. “It was vandalism. Pure vandalism. Probably the same people that did the pool.” He added that the person caught at the site “was maybe related. We’ll find that out pretty soon.”
The crew ripped out the damaged grass and put in new grass, and the vandals hit it again. “It was in beautiful shape. I looked at it two days before,” Trump said. “I think I know who did it, but bad people. Sick people. Only sick people.” They tore it out and started over: “The grass now is beautiful. And we have a lot of cameras up now.”
The vandals failed. The pool is open, the lawn is green, and the capital is being treated with respect again. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
