The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is back. Asked Sunday whether he would hold an event at the pool on the last day of the campaign, President Trump said it would be “just to show how beautiful it is. It’s been finished.”

“It’s finished, it looks beautiful,” he said. “It’s always leaked terribly and it works really well now.” The crew did a temporary opening first because the pipes still had to be done. “We wanted to be able to get it open for July 4th,” the President said.

Then the vandals came. “It was vandalized badly,” Trump said. They went after the grass around the pool, too. “They burned it out with acid,” he said. “We’ve replaced the grass. The whole lawn we had to replace.”

This time, the work is protected. “We have cameras all over the place now for the vandals,” the President said. As for a ceremony, “We might hold it tomorrow or something.”

For decades, Washington let its greatest monuments crumble and leak. President Trump fixed it, fixed it again after the vandals, and put cameras on it. America’s front yard looks the way it should.
