“We’ve never created so much wealth as we have in the last year and a half,” President Trump told the Lubbock crowd on Tuesday. “Trillions of dollars.”
He started with Apple. “They made everything in China. Now, they’re investing $600 billion in the United States,” Trump said. “$60 billion in your great state that I love. Think of that.”
“Texas Instruments is investing $40 billion in chip production in your state,” he added, with $800 billion being invested across the country to make chips at home. Trump said Bristol-Myers Squibb is building a $2.3 billion campus in Houston and Eli Lilly is investing $6.5 billion.
“And Toyota is investing $3.6 billion to move production from Mexico to Texas,” the President said. “That’s a little switch.”
The reason, Trump said, is tariffs: companies would rather build here than pay. He joked that after the media went crazy over “my favorite word,” he made it his fifth favorite. Texas is collecting the jobs.
