President Trump had a clear answer on Friday when a reporter asked what happens to Elon Musk if Democrats take Congress. “Well, Elon’s a brilliant guy,” the President said on the South Lawn. “And I have an expression. We have to protect our brilliant people, because we don’t have too many of them. There aren’t too many of them in the world.”

“And Elon’s done nothing wrong. Elon is a very good guy,” Trump said. “He’s a very different kind of a guy. But I think people have an obligation to protect our geniuses.”

Pressed on whether the richest man in the world has too much power, the President pushed back. “Well, I don’t think he does,” he said. “He’s a very good person. He’s not going to do anything wrong. He’s a very brilliant person or Starlink wouldn’t exist and other things — but Elon will never do anything wrong. I know him very well. He’s a fair person.”

The President’s message to Democrats eyeing investigations after the midterms: America’s builders and innovators are an asset to protect, not a target. “We’re leading in everything right now,” Trump said.
