First Lady Melania Trump has a date for the ceasefire she helped bring about. Speaking to reporters after she and the President voted in Palm Beach on Saturday, she said the pause in fighting begins Oct. 27.
“They’re starting a ceasefire on October 27th, and I hope everything goes as it’s planned,” the First Lady said, thanking the Pope for his support. Asked whether she had worked with both sides, she said: “We talked; we signed our agreements with both of them.”
President Trump, standing beside her, could not hide his pride. “I think she’s doing better than the professionals right now,” he said. “Now she’s got a ceasefire. This has to do with children and people.”
Her senior advisor, Marc Beckman, said this week that the First Lady brokered a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine within the area of Oleshky — part of her long-running work for children caught in the war.
While career diplomats talked for years, the First Lady delivered. America First diplomacy, Melania style.
