President Trump said Flávio Bolsonaro would be welcome in America. Asked by a reporter at Joint Base Andrews whether he would approve of Bolsonaro coming to the United States, the President answered directly: “I would approve. I think they’re fine people.”
Trump again raised doubts about how Brazil’s election played out. “The election was really strange, and I thought it was terrible,” he said.
“It would be okay with me,” the President said of a Bolsonaro visit, noting again that he did not pick sides in the race.
Earlier this week, the President said the runoff “looked like another rigged election” and that elections “have to be indisputable.”
President Trump holds every country to the same standard he is fighting for at home: honest elections that voters can trust.
