President Trump’s energy-dominance message is crossing the Atlantic. Asked on the South Lawn on Friday about his call with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, the President said: “We discussed the fact that they’re opening up the North Sea oil, and that’s going to make the UK a very rich country.”

“I’ve been after them to do that for two years,” Trump said. Of the previous Prime Minister, he said: “He’s a very nice man, but he never got it done, and this one is getting it.”

“Andy is getting it done, and I guess it’s against the liberal principle, but he knows what’s right,” the President said. “It’s going to make the UK a very wealthy country.”

The call came days after the British government approved the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea, about 150 miles east of Aberdeen, with first gas expected by the end of the month. The U.K. government’s readout says the two leaders also discussed Ukraine and nuclear cooperation.

It is the same formula President Trump has delivered at home: drill, produce, and let a country’s own resources make its people richer. Now America’s closest ally is following his lead.
