President Trump made it clear on Thursday that anyone leaking America’s secrets will pay a price. Leaving Joint Base Andrews for his rally in South Carolina, he was asked about Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, the general accused of leaking classified information at the Pentagon.

The President’s answer was direct: the general has problems, and is “going to have big problems.” Then he spelled out the policy: “Well, we’re very much looking for leakers,” and the general is “going to have big problems, long-term problems.”

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth removed the general earlier this week. The Pentagon said it acted to protect sensitive information and referred the case to the Justice Department. Under President Trump, leaking classified material is not a career move. It is a career ender.

In the same gaggle, the President weighed in on Brazil’s election. “I watched the election. I didn’t take sides,” he said, but “when I watched what went down in Brazil, it was a disgraceful situation.”

And he was confident heading into the final stretch of the midterms. “The rallies are unbelievable,” Trump said. “I’m doing a rally now in South Carolina. It’s packed. Nobody has ever seen anything like it. … I’m at 99 percent favorable.” Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
