President Trump put the Minnesota fraud scandal front and center at his Ohio rally Wednesday night, and he asked the crowd to picture the double standard. “Can you imagine if a Republican stole, as an example, the money that Tim Walz stole from Minnesota?” he said. “Billions and billions of dollars.”

If a Republican had done it, the President said, the punishment would be swift. “You know what would happen,” he said. “They’d give them the electric chair.” For Walz, it is a different story: “This guy’s going to retire. Nothing happens.”

But the reckoning may be coming. “I must say, I understand there are lots of investigations going on,” President Trump said.

He also took aim at Minnesota’s top lawman. “That crooked attorney general that’s up there,” he said. “He didn’t see anything.” Meanwhile, “they stole billions and billions of dollars. Many of them came from the lovely country of Somalia.”

The message to voters was simple: Democrats looked the other way while taxpayers were robbed, and President Trump is the one demanding accountability.
