Marsha Blackburn is making election integrity a front-burner promise in the race for governor. “Well, the early vote is going on,” she said in a new video Friday. “You’ve got until October 29th to get that vote in the box.”
“And one thing I want you to know,” Blackburn said, “as your governor, we’re going to make election security and election integrity a priority. And one of the ways we’re going to begin is making certain that every county in our state uses the SAVE system to verify that only U.S. citizens, Tennesseans, are voting in our elections.”
SAVE, the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program, is the federal citizenship-check database run by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Tennessee election officials already count SAVE checks among the reasons the state ranks No. 1 in election integrity. Blackburn’s pledge is to make sure no county is left out.
Turnout is already running hot. More than 577,000 Tennesseans had voted early or absentee through day seven, up 61 percent from 2022. Early voting ends Thursday, Oct. 29, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Blackburn’s message: get out and vote.
