Speaker Mike Johnson gave the Dubuque crowd a look at life on the other end of the President’s phone line, and he did it with an impression.
“I work almost as hard as this guy. I try to keep up with him,” Johnson said. “He doesn’t sleep at all. You understand that the man calls me at like one o’clock in the morning and also at 5 a.m.”
Then came the voice. “Mikey, is sleeping?” Johnson said, in his best Trump. His answer: “No, sir, of course. Sleep is for sissies.” The Iowa crowd loved it.
“Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,” the Speaker said. Then he turned serious about the man who keeps him up at night: “We’re never going to have a president like this again. God bless him. God bless the president.”
A President who works around the clock, and a Speaker who keeps up. That is the team asking Iowa for a Republican House on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
