The White House put the choice in front of every voter on Friday. “Take a look at France,” it posted. “Then ask yourself what kind of future you want for America.” The video sets President Trump’s words over footage of French streets on fire.

“If you want to see what is at stake in this election, just look at what’s happening in France,” the President says. “A once great nation that is being conquered, looted and burned to the ground by migrants, jihadists and communists who hate Christianity, and they hate, frankly, Western civilization itself.”

The pictures back him up. On Saturday, Oct. 17, protests across France turned violent. Buildings were set ablaze, shops were looted, Lyon’s historic tourist office burned, and fire took down part of the town hall in Limoges. French officials reported more than 2,500 arrests and about 1,000 police officers injured, and curfews went up in parts of Paris, Lyon and other cities. France’s interior minister admitted police had “lost control” in some places.

“They despise everything about France, and they’re destroying that country,” Trump says, “and we’re not going to let that happen to this country.” With the midterms days away, the White House message is clear: secure borders and law and order keep America from becoming France.
