HUD Secretary Scott Turner just cut a $30,000 tax that never should have been on the backs of American homebuyers. “One Biden-era energy mandate added up to $30,000 to the price of a new home,” Turner posted. “We killed it.”
That is not a rounding error. Thirty thousand dollars is a down payment, a year’s worth of childcare, or the difference between owning and renting for a working family. Biden-era regulators layered energy mandates onto new construction until the sticker price became a wall.
“That’s money American families no longer have to pay,” Turner said. Under President Trump, HUD is treating affordability as a deliverable, not a talking point — starting by deleting the rules that inflated costs without putting a single extra roof over a family’s head.
Homeownership is the backbone of the American Dream. When Washington piles mandates onto builders, families pay. When Trump’s HUD kills those mandates, families keep their money.
Secretary Turner’s message is America First housing policy in one line: stop punishing the people who build and buy homes. The $30,000 mandate is dead. More red tape should be next.
