President Trump walked into Fort Myers on Friday with a gift for America’s seniors. “Today I have breaking news for the benefit of American seniors,” he said. “So if you’re not a senior, don’t listen too much, because I don’t want to bore you.”

“I’m pleased to announce that the Trump Administration is investing $250 million to hire at least 5,000 new nurses in elder care facilities all across America,” the President said, “and in particular including the Great State of Florida. You need them.”

The nurses come on top of what the President’s Working Families Tax Cuts already deliver. About 4.8 million Florida seniors benefit from the new senior deduction, the White House said, with the average senior expected to pay zero federal tax on Social Security. Florida taxpayers saw average refunds of $4,433 in 2026, the highest of any state.

Care is reaching rural Florida too. The state secured $210 million in first-year funding from the Rural Health Transformation Program, the largest federal investment in rural health care in American history, and has already awarded $188 million in grants across 31 rural counties.

And Florida’s veterans are getting more help: more than $113 million in VA grants to 42 Florida groups helping veterans at risk of homelessness, and a new VA clinic in North Port that will serve more than 10,000 veterans a year. Seniors, veterans, workers: in the Golden Age, the people who built this country come first.
