Marsha Blackburn picked up a high-profile endorsement on Tuesday as former NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom came to Tennessee to campaign for her one week before Election Day. He was in town for a campaign event Tuesday night in Hendersonville featuring Blackburn and other congressional candidates.
Freedom said the support is personal. When he was pushed out of the NBA about five years ago because of China’s Communist Party, “she was actually the first person that reached out to me,” he said. “Even my own teammates just disappeared. She was the first person that reached out, and that meant a lot to me.”
“She’s the only conservative on the ballot,” Freedom said in a second clip shared by Blackburn’s campaign. “I think it’s very important for people to know that she stands with common sense and morality.”
He said Blackburn is the candidate who will keep men out of women’s locker rooms, bathrooms and showers. Blackburn thanked him and wrote, “I will NEVER stop fighting to keep women’s sports for women and women ONLY.”
Early voting in Tennessee runs through Thursday, Oct. 29, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
