President Trump is bringing home a million barrels of oil. “We took over Venezuela very successfully, and they’ve sent me, as a gift, a whole load of a million barrels of oil,” the President told reporters on Tuesday as he left for Texas. “And I’m giving that to the United States of America.”
Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are visiting the tanker in Corpus Christi. “We’re going to accept a million barrels of oil,” the President said, “and I’m going to give it to you people to use it the way you want.”
The cargo is the first shipment under the U.S.-Venezuela energy deal reached in August. A White House official said the oil is provided to the United States for free, at no cost to the taxpayer, and is “the first of the billions of barrels to come.”
The President said Americans will feel it at the pump. “Oil prices are going to be dropping very sharply,” he said.
The tanker stop comes on a Texas swing that also takes the President to rallies in Corpus Christi and Lubbock. Peace through strength in Venezuela is now paying off in American energy.
