The Trump administration’s war on health care fraud is paying off in a big way, CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said Sunday.

“This is just like immigration. We didn’t need a law. We needed a president who just said, we’re not going to do this anymore,” Oz told Sunday Morning Futures. “We’ve already stopped $50 billion from leaving Medicare and Medicaid. Just that alone could double the life of the Medicare trust fund. Think about that.”

“If you’re worried about affordability, just stop the fraud,” he said. “And all of a sudden, the money goes a lot further because it goes to the people who actually need it.”

Oz described walking through Queens, where he said taxpayers fund “probably a billion dollars a year” in so-called social adult daycare. “We’re basically paying people to go play mahjong in clubhouses for crooks,” he said, describing seniors’ Medicare numbers used to run up “massive bills for drugs they don’t want, for wheelchairs they don’t need.”

“So we want those programs shut down,” Oz said. “We must stop it at its root.” Under President Trump, the money is going back to the patients it was meant for.
