Memphis is safe again, and the numbers prove it. In remarks shared Friday, October 16, by the U.S. Department of Justice, Attorney General Todd Blanche reported that overall crime in Memphis is at a 25-year low — down 34% from last year — thanks to President Trump’s Memphis Safe Task Force.
“When you talk about murders being down 33%, sexual assaults down 25%, motor vehicle thefts are down 54%, robberies are down 40%, aggravated assaults down 24%,” Blanche said, “what it actually means on a day-to-day basis is that the citizens of this county, the citizens of Tennessee are in a safer environment, in a safer street, in a safer restaurant, in a safer building than they were two years ago.”
The task force is relentless. Blanche said it has made more arrests for murders than the number of murders that have occurred, and it is arresting someone wanted on a murder charge every two and a half days. Just two years ago, in 2024, Memphis had the highest rate of violent crime per capita in the entire country. “The American people sent President Trump back to the White House for a lot of reasons,” Blanche said, “but one reason was because of what was happening in places like Memphis.”
Tennessee’s leaders are saying thank you. “Because of the proactive, decisive measures taken by the Memphis Safe Task Force, the Memphis community has witnessed a dramatic drop in crime, murder, and assault,” Sen. Bill Hagerty posted. “Thank you for transforming our city — and keep up the great work, @POTUS, @AGToddBlanche, and @USMarshalsHQ!”
Blanche credited the men and women who wear the badge, and said the historic drop in Memphis is part of a crime decline seen all across the country under President Trump. Watch the Attorney General’s update in the video above.
