CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — President Donald J. Trump promised to make Memphis safe again, and on Saturday he stood before the crowd at F&M Bank Arena and showed Tennessee the results. “I got a call from your governor, I got a call from the mayor of Memphis, they said ‘We need your help, it’s out of control,’” the President told the crowd. So he sent help. The Memphis Safe Task Force, launched in September 2025, brought together more than 30 federal, state and local agencies to make arrests, clear warrants, seize illegal guns and take back neighborhoods that Democrats had surrendered to gangs.
The President named the kinds of predators who are now off the streets. “We arrested a member of the Gangster Disciples, nice people, who killed two teenagers, a thug linked to the slaughter of a beloved high school football coach, as you know, and a vicious monster, who shot these two people to death, one of whom was his own mother,” he said. “He decided to shoot his mother. Animal.”
Then he gave credit where it is due. “I want to thank every member of federal law enforcement who has helped with this task force in Memphis. I want to thank the Memphis Police Department. I want to thank the mayor, the governor,” the President said, adding that the Tennessee Highway Patrol “has been incredible.”
The numbers back him up. According to the White House’s one-year report, overall crime in Memphis is down nearly 36%, murders are down 36%, robberies are down 42%, sexual assaults are down 28% and motor vehicle thefts are down 57%, with the city on pace for a 25-year low in overall crime. Across Shelby County, violent crime is down more than 30%. As of September 15, 2026, the task force had made 12,747 arrests, including 131 for homicide and 1,408 arrests of known gang members, taken 2,160 illegal firearms off the streets and recovered 189 missing children. In 2024, before President Trump stepped in, Memphis posted the highest violent crime rate in America.
The turnaround is spreading statewide: the White House reports Tennessee murders fell 18% in 2025, Nashville homicides are down 29% in the first half of 2026, and Knoxville recorded zero murders in the first quarter. Decline was a choice, and President Trump chose law and order. With Tennessee early voting opening Wednesday, October 14, and Election Day on November 3, Patriots know which party keeps their streets safe. Watch the Official White House video.
