WASHINGTON — The President is a builder, and on Tuesday he gave the press corps a tour from the South Lawn. “Does anybody want to see a great work of art, a great thing?” President Donald J. Trump asked before boarding Marine One, pointing past the helipad to the cranes towering over the White House.
“You see those cranes? They’re the most powerful cranes in the world,” he said. “They’re lifting up massive steel beams. There’s one on each side, the red and the yellow… To me, it’s just a great beauty. They wanted it here for 150 years and now they’re getting it.” The ballroom, he said, “will be the greatest anywhere in the world” — and it is a military complex as well.
Asked when it will be finished, the President delivered a line Washington rarely hears about a federal construction project: “We’re a little ahead of schedule, right on budget.”
After decades of presidents talking about it, President Trump is getting it built — on time, on budget and built to last, just like the Golden Age he is building across the country. Watch the White House video of the President’s departure remarks.
