KALISPELL, Mont. — President Donald J. Trump brought breaking news to the Treasure State. “Montana will continue to play a critical role in the development and testing of cutting-edge military technology,” he told a roaring Kalispell crowd Tuesday night. “And for that, we have a little breaking news.”
The President said Montana’s leaders had asked for it — “Tim wanted it. Steve wanted it. Greg wanted it. Everybody wanted it from here” — and then he delivered. “I’m pleased to inform you and announce that right here in Montana, the Department of War is going to establish a new super range for testing advanced weapons and technologies, including potential autonomous weapons, space and electronic warfare technology, supersonics and hypersonics.”
He drew the mission in one line: “Montana will help ensure the American military always reigns supreme.” Then, with a grin for the home crowd that won the prize: “So you’re getting it, everybody. Will you please leave me alone?”
Montana is already on the front line of the Golden Age defense build. The White House Montana fact sheet notes Malmstrom Air Force Base is clearing the way for nearly $1 billion in Sentinel ICBM construction, and Montana antimony is refilling the National Defense Stockpile under a five-year, $245 million Defense Logistics Agency contract.
