KYOTO, Japan — The Golden Age is going global. At the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society Forum in Kyoto, the United States and 16 countries endorsed the Kyoto Vision for a Golden Age of Science, the White House announced on October 4, 2026. The joint declaration commits the signers to renew their science ecosystems and usher in a new era of discovery and prosperity — with America out front.

White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios led the effort. “The way we make scientific discoveries has changed, and the Kyoto Vision is a recognition of that shift and a call to action,” Kratsios said. “Super intelligence applied to science will be the greatest force in history for democratizing research. Seizing this moment requires us to reinvigorate our research enterprises and leverage new institutional models for discovery. Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States is leading that charge, and the Kyoto Vision shows the world is ready to move forward with us.”

The Kyoto Vision has three pillars. First, improve the institutions of discovery, using tools like long-duration awards, rapid grants, and prizes and challenges, and treating metascience as a real field for making research work better. Second, harness super intelligence for science, expanding researcher access to SI tools, scientific data, computing power, and experimental facilities — the release says SI will enable autonomous experimentation at scale. Third, cultivate talent, investing in meritorious students and early-career researchers and expanding hands-on training for the people who build and run the instruments.

The coalition is broad. Alongside the United States, the endorsers are Argentina, Bulgaria, Chile, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. The declaration builds on Science: A New Golden Age, the report Kratsios delivered to President Trump in July 2026 — which the White House calls the most comprehensive rethinking of the American research enterprise in eight decades.

It lands on the same day President Trump launched the Super Intelligence Force at home. One message, two fronts: America sets the standard, and the world follows.
