WASHINGTON — Drill, build, export, win. On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, President Donald J. Trump proclaimed October 2026 National Energy Dominance Month, and he did it with a scoreboard. “In less than 2 years since returning to office, my Administration has transformed the United States into the most dominant energy superpower in the history of the world,” the President wrote. “America’s abundant energy resources are the backbone of our booming economy and the foundation of our enduring prosperity.”
The proclamation lays out how it happened. The Administration has opened millions of acres of federal land for oil, gas and coal and approved over 6,000 drilling permits, more than in any year in over a decade. It committed over $1 billion to revitalize America’s coal industry, saved over 100 coal plants, ended the freeze on new natural gas export terminals, secured historic investments in nuclear energy and ended what the President calls the Green New Scam. In February it rescinded the Obama-era Endangerment Finding, which the President called “the single largest deregulatory action in American history.”
Then came the biggest deal of all. Last month, the proclamation says, the Administration secured “the largest oil deal in all of human history,” giving the United States majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in Venezuela and “securing our energy dominance for the next century and beyond.” America set records for oil and gas production and for liquefied natural gas exports in 2025, and 2026 is on pace to break them again. On September 30, the President stood in the Oval Office as South Korea’s roughly $200 billion strategic investment push was unveiled, including about $54 billion for the 807-mile Alaska LNG pipeline, eight large-scale nuclear plants and a 6-gigawatt power plant in Encinal, Texas.
The goal is lower bills for American families. “As President, I will continue fighting to drive down the cost of the energy that fills our tanks and powers our homes, and I will not rest until the full benefits of American prosperity are felt in every home across our land,” President Trump wrote, pointing to the Ratepayer Protection Pledge he arranged on March 4, 2026 and new pipelines, export terminals, power plants and nuclear reactors set to create thousands of high-paying jobs. “Our Nation’s energy renaissance is only just beginning, and the best is still yet to come.”
The same afternoon, the President also proclaimed Monday, October 12, 2026 as Columbus Day, honoring “a legend whose vision, fortitude, and perseverance” led to “the greatest, freest, and most just Nation in history,” and vowing: “we will never allow his legacy to be erased by radical extremists.” Watch the Official White House video on the new era of American energy dominance.
