WASHINGTON — No American left behind. On Sunday, October 4, 2026, President Donald J. Trump named the man who will lead his mission to bring Americans home. “I am pleased to announce that John Coale, Esq., a great lawyer and my incredibly successful Envoy for Belarus, will be my new Nominee for Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, with the rank of Ambassador,” the President wrote on Truth Social.
Coale’s record speaks for itself. “John has already secured the return of over 65 Americans and Allied Citizens from Belarus over the last year, and negotiated the release of more than 800 political prisoners from multiple countries in Eastern Europe,” the President wrote. “He will work tirelessly in this new post to bring American Citizens home.”
The President also honored the man who has carried the mission so far. “Adam Boehler, who has done an incredible job, bringing back 196 hostages, will continue to assist in other matters, as Senior Advisor,” Trump wrote. Nearly two hundred families reunited — that is what America First diplomacy looks like when the President of the United States personally makes it a priority.
The Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs coordinates the federal government’s diplomatic strategy to recover Americans held hostage abroad or wrongfully detained by foreign governments. Under President Trump, the job is not to manage the problem. It is to win. Coale has done exactly that in Belarus, delivering release after release through hard-nosed negotiation backed by the strength of the Oval Office.
The White House has shown the world what these victories look like. Watch the Official White House video of President Trump welcoming freed hostages to the White House. Strength brings people home. Weakness leaves them behind. With John Coale stepping up, Patriots everywhere know the mission continues.
