WASHINGTON — Only Americans pick America’s leaders. On Friday, October 16, President Trump’s Justice Department announced charges involving 16 aliens in North Carolina, New York and Idaho — including an illegal alien — for illegal voting, false claims of U.S. citizenship and related election crimes.
The biggest case is in the Eastern District of North Carolina, where 10 aliens have been charged for illegally voting in the 2024 elections. According to the Justice Department, they include a 22-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador who registered and voted in the 2024 General Election, and a 73-year-old German national who registered in 2008 and voted in the 2024, 2020, 2018, 2016, 2014, 2012 and 2008 General Elections. Another, a 71-year-old German national, allegedly registered in 2004 and voted in eight general elections between 2004 and 2024.
In upstate New York, five lawful permanent residents — two British nationals, a Bosnian national and two Canadian nationals from Ballston Spa, Glens Falls, Clifton Park, Tupper Lake and Albany — appeared on charges of voting by aliens on October 13 and 14 after an investigation with Homeland Security Investigations. In Idaho, a 48-year-old Canadian national is charged with voting in the 2022 general election.
“The law is clear that only U.S. citizens can vote in elections that have candidates running for federal office,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III of the Northern District of New York. “When non-citizens vote, the public loses confidence in the integrity of the election process and its outcome. Our office, working with our federal law enforcement partners, will work tirelessly to prosecute those who should not have voted, but did.” Each New York defendant faces up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine if convicted. As always, charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
