WASHINGTON — Billions for discovery, merit over ideology, and missions worthy of a superpower. On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit, the Trump Administration launched what the White House calls the most ambitious set of science initiatives in decades — more than $6 billion across the federal government, industry, academia and philanthropy. “Today marks the most transformative day for the American scientific enterprise since the reshaping of the Federal research ecosystem following World War II,” said OSTP Director Michael Kratsios.

Super intelligence gets the fuel it needs. Eleven industry partners pledged $2.4 billion in SI-for-science tools and compute credits for the Genesis Mission Consortium, backing more than 15 federal agencies on National Science & Technology Challenges. NVIDIA leads with $1 billion, AMD with $500 million, OpenAI with $200 million, Anthropic and Google with $150 million each, plus AMP, Emerald AI, AWS, Armada, Crusoe and Micron. Universities and the State of Georgia announced a $1 billion Southeast Regional SI Computing Consortium, and NSF and DOE put over $100 million into SI-enabled instrumentation and autonomous laboratories.

President Trump replaced DEI with merit across federal R&D. The Administration revived the NSF Young Scholars Program — abandoned in 1996 — for gifted students in grades 3–12 based on demonstrated math ability, launched a $100 million Genesis Mission Fellowship for accelerated four-year PhDs that pair super intelligence with another science or engineering discipline, and stood up Generation Discovery to bring a hundred exceptional early-career scientists into NIH’s intramural program. NSF also launched a six-year integrated bachelor’s-to-PhD track so America’s best talent can contribute faster.

The national missions are back. NASA and DOE locked in a partnership for Space Reactor-1, a nuclear-powered spacecraft to Mars expected to launch in 2028, and Lunar Reactor-1, the first fission reactor on the lunar surface — implementing President Trump’s space-superiority orders. Quantum, fusion and SI missions round out a whole-of-nation push Kratsios says will “inspire Americans for generations to come.” Watch the Official White House video on America leading science and technology.
