Another manufacturer is betting on Tennessee. Gov. Bill Lee and Deputy Gov. and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter announced Monday that ITT Goulds Pumps will establish its first Tennessee location in Memphis, investing $31 million and creating 57 new jobs.
The company will move into the facility at 5633 Mineral Wells Road and build a new manufacturing and distribution center. ITT Goulds Pumps has outgrown its current distribution center in Southaven, Mississippi, and the Memphis site will give it room to add inventory and meet rising customer demand.
It is a company with deep American roots. Founded in 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, ITT Goulds Pumps became the world’s first manufacturer of iron pumps. Today it serves customers in energy, mining, power, chemicals, pulp and paper, water and wastewater, and general industry.
“Global brands continue to recognize what we already know: Tennessee is the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Gov. Lee said. “I’m proud that 57 families across Shelby County now have access to high-quality jobs.” McWhorter pointed to Memphis’s strengths: “With access to rail, interstate highways, air and waterways, Memphis is the perfect spot for ITT Goulds Pumps’ new manufacturing and distribution center.”
Hamdy Salem, president of ITT Goulds Pumps, said the move “reflects the continued growth of ITT Goulds Pumps and our long-term commitment to this community.” For the Volunteer State, it is one more sign that low taxes and a pro-business climate keep bringing good jobs home.
