The man who won the Presidents Cup for America came home to the Upstate on Wednesday night and stood with the President. Jacob Bridgeman, the Clemson graduate who sank the clinching putt for Team USA last month, joined President Trump on stage at his Clemson University rally.
“Hey guys, hey South Carolina,” Bridgeman said. “It’s a great honor to be here with you guys in South Carolina, in my home state, in the Upstate, where I was born and raised. I went to Chapman High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I live in Greenville now, and I attended the best university in the state, Clemson.”
Bridgeman’s moment came at Medinah, where Team USA trailed the Internationals 10.5–7.5 heading into Sunday singles. Captain Brandt Snedeker’s squad stormed back to win nine of 12 singles matches, and Bridgeman sealed the Cup with a par putt on the 18th green to beat Min Woo Lee 1-up, completing a 17–13 victory.
“I just thank President Donald Trump for having me here, and it’s been great to get to know him,” Bridgeman said, recalling the team’s “pretty historic comeback on Sunday” and thanking his captain. He told the crowd he travels 25 to 30 weeks a year, “and every time I come home it just feels like home and it’s no place I’d rather be.”
From Medinah to the Upstate, it was a night that celebrated American winners. Boxing great Evander Holyfield also joined the President on stage as Trump rallied South Carolina ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms.
