Stephen Hubbard is home. President Trump told reporters on Thursday that the American freed from a Russian prison has landed, and that the critics who tried to derail the effort have been proven wrong. “Everyone thinks I did the right thing because we’re able to get a great person back,” the President said.

“We have the person, I think it’s called hostage or prisoner or whatever it is, but he’s now just landed,” Trump said. “And you couldn’t have done that if you did what foolish people wanted me to do.”

Asked when Hubbard will visit, the President said he is coming to the White House “over the next day or so,” adding: “He’s obviously just got out of prison.”

The homecoming caps a week in which President Trump and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff stood firm against a media firestorm over Witkoff’s words. On Wednesday Trump said that if he had caved to critics, the 74-year-old “would be in there for another 20 years.” Vice President JD Vance put it simply: “We should all be celebrating that.”

Bringing Americans home is a hallmark of the Trump White House. Thanks to the President’s diplomacy, one more American family has their loved one back.
