President Trump is not chasing Iran for a deal. Asked by reporters on Thursday whether he is still negotiating with the Iranians, the President was direct. “No, I think we’re not negotiating with them,” Trump said.

Instead, the President made clear that an outcome is coming on America’s terms. “We are going to have something one way or the other that will happen fairly soon,” Trump said. When a reporter suggested most people expect that after the election, he answered simply: “We’re going to see.”

The White House laid out the stakes the same day. “More oil is coming through the Hormuz Strait than it did prior to the conflict,” the White House said, “all while the evil Iranian regime makes up fake hits and kills tens of thousands of protestors. They must never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.”

That is the result of strength. Global energy is flowing through one of the world’s most important waterways at higher levels than before the fighting began, and the regime in Tehran knows exactly where this President stands.

President Trump has said from day one that Iran will never get a nuclear weapon. On Thursday he reminded the world that he negotiates when it serves America, and that he is ready to act “one way or the other” when it does not.
