SPARROWS POINT, Md. — Where Bethlehem Steel once forged the backbone of American industry, President Donald J. Trump’s Golden Age is bringing the shipyards back. This afternoon, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the President travels to Baltimore County to deliver remarks at 4:00 p.m. Eastern at Sparrows Point Shipyard, where Anduril Industries is announcing Arsenal-2: a 2-million-square-foot shipyard at Tradepoint Atlantic that will build major pieces of America’s Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines.

The numbers are huge. Arsenal-2 carries a $6.6 billion investment, $3.7 billion in private capital plus a Navy contract worth up to $2.9 billion, with payments tied to production results. Anduril expects 3,100 direct jobs, thousands more across the supply chain, and about $2 billion a year in economic output for Maryland. Workers there will build torpedo tubes, sterns, bow sections, and other large assemblies, with initial operations targeted for 2030. A senior administration official said the yard could add about 9 million labor hours of production capacity a year, an estimated 15% increase for the Virginia-class program.

“The core insight that the administration had and the Navy had is we just need new production capacity,” Anduril’s Chris Brose said on a White House press call Tuesday morning. “We need to grow the maritime industrial base, the submarine industrial base, so that we can produce more submarines.” Anduril co-founder and CEO Brian Schimpf put it plainly: “With Arsenal-2, Anduril will return large-scale shipbuilding to a site that can once again define American naval power.”

This is President Trump’s maritime agenda at work. In April 2025 he signed an executive order to restore America’s maritime dominance and rebuild the shipbuilding industrial base, and this August he followed with a presidential memorandum directing more steps to grow Navy shipbuilding capacity and competition. Anduril will also open a 160,000-square-foot facility in Orange County, California, to start building submarine parts and training workers two years ahead of Arsenal-2.

For Dundalk and Sparrows Point, it is a comeback story, and the President has carried the area in all three of his elections. But it’s not forgotten any longer.” Built in America, by American workers, for the strongest Navy on Earth.
