NASHVILLE — Sen. Bill Hagerty is making the case that Tennessee builds the future. At the Imagine IF summit at Belmont University on October 5, Hagerty moderated a panel on nuclear energy that put the Volunteer State’s nuclear corridor front and center — Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of Tennessee and TVA.
“We are the nuclear center of the universe,” panelist Hash Hashemian, CEO of Knoxville-based nuclear engineering firm AMS Corporation, said of the innovation corridor around Oak Ridge, according to the Tennessean. The panel also included Brandon Williams, the undersecretary for nuclear security and administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration.
Hagerty is pairing energy dominance with a plan to make the American Dream affordable again. His Freedom to Build Act, S. 4265, would have HUD create a voluntary designation for communities that adopt pro-building reforms — construction innovation, streamlined approvals and property freedom — or hit housing-supply growth targets, and give those communities priority for existing HUD housing and community-development grants.
“I’ve spent my career getting things built,” Hagerty said October 13. “Let’s make it cheaper to buy or build new homes in Tennessee. Early Voting starts this Wednesday. I hope you’ll make a plan to get out and vote EARLY!”
Cheap, reliable power and homes families can afford — that is the Golden Age Tennessee is building. Early voting runs through October 29, and Election Day is November 3.
